The main purpose of assessment
at Middle Park State School is to improve student learning.
At Middle Park State School, we use a range of
evidence of student learning to assess student achievement, monitor student progress
and inform future teaching and learning:
- Unit assessments – monitoring and summative assessments, for example work samples, conferences, unit tests, observations, portfolios
- Diagnostic assessments - pinpoints where each student’s strengths and weaknesses are so that instruction can be targeted specifically at their needs
- Standardised assessments - provides more of a general overview of what students should know at a particular grade level. Students are compared to other students of the same age, for example NAPLAN.
We plan and use assessment FOR learning: We use effective, relevant, evidence-based assessment tools to continuously monitor progress of student learning in all classrooms. We know where each student is at and what needs to come next for their learning.
We plan and use assessment AS learning: We share larning intentions and achievement goals with students trhough the use of a common language - WALT (we are learning to), WILF (what I'm looking for), TIB (this is becuase...). We support students in reflecting on and monitoring their progress. We support students in using feedback to plan the next steps for their learning.
We plan and use assessment OF learning: We collect evidence of student achievement against standards for
summative purposes. It provides the evidence for teachers to make reliable
judgments about student achievement for reporting to parents and students.
Reporting to Parents/Guardians

in Terms 2 and 4. Teachers and or parents can request an interview at this
time.
Parents are also offered the opportunity to
have an interview in Terms 1 and 3 to discuss their child’s educational
performance.
