At Middle Park State School we use explicit instruction as the pedagogical model with which all new content is taught. Explicit
instruction is systematic, direct, engaging and success-oriented, and has been
shown to promote achievement for all students (Anita Archer & Charles
Hughes 2011).
What does explicit instruction look like and sound like at Middle Park State School?
Although the explicit instruction stages must follow the sequence above, it may not necessarily involve every step every time. For example, some lessons require I Do and We Do several times before moving on to the You Do. Teachers make these pedagogical decisions based on the content, their experience and their students’ understanding.
