Middle Park State School has two dance groups. The Dance Crew is open to all students from Years 3 and 4 - everyone is welcome. They rehearse once a week on Fridays, and each term the Dance Crew has the opportunity to perform at assembly.
Students in Years 5 and 6 have the chance to audition for the Dance Troupe. The Dance Troupe is instructed by Ms Pegoraro, with support from Ms Jolliffe and Ms Humblet. Ms Pegoraro is a trained dancer who studied and performed full-time before becoming a school teacher. This group is selected through an audition process held at the beginning of the year. Students must demonstrate enthusiasm, musicality, and the ability to retain choreography. Dance Troupe rehearses on Friday afternoons.
Throughout the year, the Dance Troupe performs at assemblies and the Christmas concert; however, their main focus is on Wakakirri, a festival centered on storytelling through dance.
Being part of a school dance group offers many benefits for students. Physically, dance improves strength, stamina, flexibility, and coordination. It also provides a powerful outlet for self-expression, allowing students to explore different styles and tell stories through movement. Beyond the physical and creative aspects, participating in a dance group can greatly boost confidence and self-esteem as students perform in front of others and achieve their goals.
Working together as a team teaches important skills such as communication, cooperation, and mutual support. Additionally, the discipline required for regular practice helps build time management, responsibility, and a strong work ethic.
For the school community as a whole, a dance group enhances school spirit by performing at assemblies and other school events. Performances and competitions provide a platform to showcase student talent, highlighting the school's commitment to the arts and creativity.
