Bookwork Presentation Expectations
Bookwork presentation guidelines have been established by teachers to ensure that consistently high standards are maintained across all learning areas. These guidelines are a minimum standard and students are encouraged to present all work to the best of their ability.
To achieve this, all teachers explicitly teach to the bookwork and presentation expectations. The classroom teacher provides feedback on bookwork and the principal regularly checks students’ bookwork to ensure consistency across the school.
Expectations have been worded as positive student-centred statements. Teachers may wish to have students sign a Workbook Presentation Contract.
Early Years Bookwork Expectations
- I will always do my best and take pride in the presentation of my work.
- I will use a sharp lead pencil for writing. I will only write in colour if my teacher asks me to.
- I will write the date on my work.
- My writing will be neat, well-sized, close together and spaced correctly.
- My drawings and colouring-in will reflect my best efforts. Whenever I do headings they will be underlined with a ruled line.
- I will use all pages in my book consecutively. I will not leave any blank pages.
- I will glue sheets into the book properly with the sheets straight and the corners not flapping.
- I will copy carefully and accurately from the board.
- If I make a mistake I will use a single line to cross out a large number of words or carefully use an eraser for one or two words.
- I will not scribble on or graffiti the cover or inside my book.
Years 3 to 6 Bookwork Expectations
- I will always do my best and take pride in the presentation of my work.
- I will use a sharp lead pencil for writing. Only with teacher permission will I write in pen or colour.
- I will write the date on my work.
- I will use a lead pencil for maths and carefully set out my work.
- My writing will be neat, well sized, close together and spaced correctly.
- Diagrams will be labelled and completed in pencil.
- Headings will be underlined with a ruled line.
- I will use all pages in my book consecutively. I will not leave any blank pages.
- I will glue sheets into the book properly with the sheets straight, trimmed if necessary, and the corners not flapping.
- I will use a ruler to rule lines.
- I will copy carefully and accurately from the board.
- If I make a mistake I will use a single line to cross out a large number of words or carefully use an eraser for one or two words. Liquid paper will not be used.
- I will not scribble on or graffiti the cover or inside my book.
Music
All students attending Middle Park State School have one 30 minute lesson per week with a specialist classroom music teacher. During this time, opportunities are provided for students to experience the core musical components of beat, rhythm, pitch, tempo, dynamics, tone colour, texture, form and style.
This is done through engaging students in a developmental, sequential program of activities which includes singing, playing games, playing simple melodic and non-melodic percussion instruments, playing the recorder from Year 3, moving, listening, creating, improvising, composing, and reading and writing musical notation.
Performance opportunities are provided during lessons, at school assemblies and at the very popular annual Twilight Christmas Concert for the Prep to Year 3 classes.
An extensive program of extra-curricular activities in music is also offered.
