All students from Prep to Year 6 at Middle Park State School have classroom music lessons with a specialist music teacher, as music is a key learning area. The specialist music teacher also conducts choirs and music groups.
Students in early years have the opportunity to develop their speaking and singing voice and an understanding of musical elements through a wide range of rhymes, songs and small group activities in their music lessons. Student participation in these activities also assists with fine and gross motor skills, social skills, confidence building, along with listening skills and creativity.
Students in Year 3 to Year 6 continue to develop their understanding and knowledge of music through performing, creating, improvising, composing, listening with intent and responding individually and collaboratively in their music lessons. This program aims to give students the confidence to be innovative, creative, thoughtful and skilful musicians with respect for music across worldwide cultures, communities and musical traditions.
